Rumors of War

The United States and Korea appear to be playing a dangerous game with each other. I say dangerous because it could cost millions of lives. Nuclear war can’t be pretty and I get a wee bit anxious when I think of the possibility that we and many other countries may experience such devastation.  I do not wish nuclear war, or war of any kind, on any country, or any nation of people’s.

rumors of warI posted recently on Facebook “I was anxious and earnestly praying against war.”

A friend commented, “I’m praying with you, but the word talks about war and rumors of war. There are some things that will happen. Our comfort is God will protect us for those that believe in HIM. DO NOT BE AFRAID! God is in control”. Other friends have shared similar comments.

Am I in error?  Am I not exhibiting faith when I share, I’m a wee bit anxious and fearful, that the future may hold some pretty ugly, ugly events. Actions which would affect millions of lives? In prayer I asked the Lord for wisdom, and to reveal my measure of faith. I was led to read Matthew chapter 24. Interestingly enough, this is where my friends quote of war and rumors of war came from.

In this chapter, Jesus is sitting on the Mount of Olives with his disciples. The disciples ask him, “When will this happen and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?” (They were inquiring about Jesus’ final return to earth, life as we now know it will end and a new eternal beginning will take place).

“Jesus answered: ‘you will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains.” He goes on to say “At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness the love of most will grow cold, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved.”

Don’t miss this…. This is just the beginning!  It’s going to get tons worse my friends, before it gets better.

As a believer in Jesus Christ, my faith tells me that when I die I will be with Jesus. I believe one day earth will be renewed in absolute perfection, as it was in its beginning.  Satan will have no residency there. He and his followers (those who don’t accept Jesus as God’s son) have a place set aside for them. And it ain’t pretty folks.

The temptations of this world will cease to exist because Satan won’t be there to tempt me, or you. I look forward to that time. I don’t look forward, however, to the path, or the journey which must take place.  Biblical prophecy has foretold of coming events and God is faithful to his Word.

We don’t get to pick and choose what we believe from the Word of God. We either believe it or we don’t.

When you look at our world today, I truly believe we are in the beginning birth pains spoken of in Matthew.  Rumors of war, famine, earthquakes in various places, nation rising against nation and kingdom against kingdom, and the love of most growing cold.  We live in a world filled with more hatred than love. Not to mention we have droughts, earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes and other natural disasters wreaking havoc around the globe.

Holy Bible.Satan (Lucifer) isn’t going to go quietly.  There’s going to be a war to end all wars; a spiritual battle fought on an earthly plain. I’ve read the end of the book… God wins! He wants everyone to be on the winning team. I’ve chosen to participate on the winning team. Therefore, from that standpoint I have no fear.

I think CS Lewis summarizes my feelings best, “We are not necessarily doubting that God will do the best for us; we are wondering how painful the best will turn out to be.” That my dear friend’s, is why, I’m a wee bit anxious and praying diligently about “rumors of wars”.

My heart’s desire is that every person reading this would be on the winning team. I know many of you will think or say, “That’s your belief”. And, you’re right. It is my belief based on everything I read in the Bible, and what I know from my personal experiences with God and doing life with Jesus.

If I’m wrong, I’ve lost nothing. If I’m right and you don’t choose God’s team then you lose everything upon your death. I pray you will think about that.

Until next time

“Then Jesus said, ‘he who has ears to hear, let him hear.’ ” Mark 4:9

Belief, the way to Heaven

Some say I border on the morbid, as I contemplate life. One day you’re breathing and living life, then in the blink of an eye your existence on earth ceases. Recently, I had the opportunity to discuss this very subject with a friend, Ruthie (not her real name). “Sandra, I’m not sure I have a place with Jesus in eternity”.  Like many, Ruthie’s experiencing doubt regarding her place in the afterlife. “Ruthie, sometimes I too have this same concern”.  She looked at me with amazed or shocked eyes as if to say, You! If you could have doubts I’m in big time trouble.  “Ruthie, Satan can make all of us doubt. It’s a goal he never stops pursuing.  You are not alone”.

jesus_handMy friend, like many others, is afraid she won’t have done enough for God. The reality is none of us could ever do enough. God’s Word, the Bible says none of us will achieve good enough standard to live with Jesus for all eternity following our death  Romans 3:10. That’s why Jesus, the son of God, was born.  We cannot be enough or do enough right things to counterbalance our wrongs done against God (sin). Imagine someone loving you enough that he would sacrifice everything to get you out of jail and pay your lifetime of debt.  Jesus did just that.  Jesus is our get out of jail free card. Free to us, but cost Him everything.  Jesus paid the price not only for yesterday’s sin, but today’s and future ones.

Ruthie and I read together, “Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a member of the Jewish ruling Council He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know you are a teacher, who has come from God….” In reply Jesus declared, “I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.” “How can a man be born when he is old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely he cannot enter a 2nd time into his mother’s womb to be born!” Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘you must be born again’ the wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” John 3:1-8

“Ruthie, through your act of surrender in baptism you became born of water and Spirit.  You truly believe Jesus is the Christ the son of God and you have love for Jesus; correct?

A long pause and then her reply, “Yes, but I have done some pretty awful things. Many I’ve done since I became a Christian. Sandra, you just don’t know”.

We talked about Jesus death covering even the ugliest act we have done or could imagine doing.  God sees through the deeds to our heart which says, “Lord, I’m truly sorry. What I wouldn’t do to take those actions back”. We explored the bible passage further. “Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.” John 14-15

In the Book of Acts, the jailer assigned to watch over the Apostle Paul asked the question, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”  Paul replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved…” In the book of Romans, we read “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

“Sandra, I get all that, but still….” her voice trails off while her mind, I suspect, went to those dark places in her life.

“Ruthie, the devil himself, places voices of doubt within. His voice says, devil cartoon we are not good enough, we haven’t done enough, and we can’t be forgiven for what we’ve done! I know full well the voice which says, ‘If you were truly a Christian, if you really had the Holy Spirit in your life, you could not have done such a terrible thing’.”

God knew we would be vulnerable to doubts and the schemes of the devil.  God does not want us to doubt.  He had John write “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the son of God, so you may know you have eternal life.”  1 John 5:13

“Ruthie the Lord wants us to have confidence in our eternal home, in our salvation, no matter our circumstance. And no matter what our minds might try to tell us. It’s much more about our heart – our belief in Jesus then it will ever be about what we do. I know you love the Lord”

“Yes, I do”, came her reply as her eyes began to swell with tears.

Ruthie don’t doubt Christ’s love for you. God’s desire is for you to have assurance, have confidence in knowing you are His child destined to live with Him for eternity!

Many scriptures, in the Bible, speak to our belief in Jesus as the way of salvation (life with Jesus following one’s death).  I encouraged Ruthie to look up those scriptures, write them on a piece of paper, or a large post-it note and stick them on the inside cover of her Bible. She will have a handy reference to fight off the voices which tell her, she is not a child of God and therefore not going to be with Jesus in the afterlife.

Until next time,

My friends, we do not know the moment or hour in which we will take our last breath.  If you would like to know more about Jesus and spending the afterlife with Him, please leave a comment or shoot me a private email.

The God-setting-things-right that we read about has become Jesus-setting-things-right for us. And not only for us, but for everyone who believes in him. For there is no difference between us and them in this. Since we’ve compiled this long and sorry record as sinners (both us and them) and proved that we are utterly incapable of living the glorious lives God wills for us, God did it for us. Out of sheer generosity he put us in right standing with himself. A pure gift. He got us out of the mess we’re in and restored us to where he always wanted us to be. And he did it by means of Jesus Christ.  God sacrificed Jesus on the altar of the world to clear that world of sin. Having faith in him sets us in the clear. God decided on this course of action in full view of the public—to set the world in the clear with himself through the sacrifice of Jesus, finally taking care of the sins he had so patiently endured. This is not only clear, but it’s now—this is current history! God sets things right. He also makes it possible for us to live in his rightness.” Romans 3:22-26 The Message Bible

Are the Claims for Real?

What is it about this little guy which draws me too him like a magnet. His eyes! His eyes pulled me into his world, into his soul. Do animals have a soul? I’m not sure, but if our soul defines the essence of who we are, then this little guy definitely has a soul.

Giraffe 2God created a beautiful world designed for his people, us, to live our lives in perfect beauty and harmony.  You’ve probably heard the phrase, “All’s right with the World” that was then, in the beginning; a world without sadness, pain and death. Sadly, those whom he created wanted more… a relationship with God wasn’t enough. Humankind chose to go against God’s wishes allowing evil to burst forth in that moment. On that day life on earth changed.  Death entered in and Satan was allowed to have dominion over earth.  But, and this is a big but, a time is coming when evil will pretty much take over the world and it will appear as though evil has triumphed over all things good. Ah, but wait, I’ve read the last chapter. God’s glory in goodness and love triumphs. The earth will be restored, renewed to its original form; in essence a new earth.  God and Jesus will leave the spiritual world and make their home on earth among us. Here we will live forever, and ever, and ever! Satan and all who follow him (by the way that is anyone who does not believe in Jesus) will be banished from this new earth. Satan will no longer be allowed access to us, all temptations will cease.  Picture that for a moment, a life where sorrow no longer enters in, where pain has no definition, where temptation is no longer a battle, where death has no power and evil has no hold.

With murders reported on the nightly news, babies dying at the hands of abusive parents and terrorism’s a weekly occurrence, it’s challenging to picture a world at peace, in perfect harmony, where love flourishes, where the color of one’s skin doesn’t matter, and where sexual orientation is no longer a topic of controversy and pain.

I have faith that what the Bible says is true. I believe the new earth promised will come to fruition. I have hope that a better world awaits me in the future. Sadly, not everyone will get to reside on the new earth. The promise is given to those who choose to believe God exists and that Jesus truly is the son of God.

I see God in the magnificence of this giraffe’s beauty and stature; yet in his eyes I see sadness.  My mother always knew when I was sad.  She would say, “Honey, your eyes tell me everything I need to know”. Like my eyes spoke to my mom, this little guy speaks to me. His eyes reveal an “all-knowing” sadness. If I could see the eyes of God today, I believe I would see a similar yet deeper sadness.

Jesus eyes 3 editedGod knows everyone will not accept Jesus as his son. And when death comes or the world ceases to exist many will find themselves in the place where God does not exist. It will be a forever home of darkness where light never enters; a home of complete isolation and loneliness.  A resting place where one hungers and hopes for relief; hope no longer exists and relief never comes….. Never! This eventuality brings great sadness to the heart of God.  He never intended for anyone to suffer in such a manner. His hope and desire is for us to choose a relationship with him; to be with him here in the present, and on into the afterlife and the new earth.   Just as we cannot force human relationships due to freedom of choice, neither will God force himself upon us.  We all have freedom to choose.

In this present day good and evil reside.  But one day, separation will come.  Those who have said yes to Jesus will live with him in the land God has promised. Those who refuse to accept his Lordship will live in utter despair and darkness in a world where God is not.

Like this giraffe, Jesus draws me to Him. When I look at the synchronicity, perfect harmony in nature and the way our human body performs I can’t help but consider the possibility of a creator, a designer. Such perfection simply cannot morph its way into existence. Think about that for a moment.  Nothing morphs into perfection. I believe our world, our universe and beyond, what we can define was created by an intelligence we cannot fully comprehend. One day, all will be revealed.

Don't cry little heartMy heart aches to think of anyone living in the “dark” for all time. Please, won’t you investigate this man called Jesus? He’s not a myth.  He lived.  Historical records all agree he lived. They don’t all agree he was the son of God and therein lays the choice to be made.

We all love a challenge right? I’m challenging all my readers to make the choice to investigate, to discover all you can about this man called Jesus.  You really have nothing to lose. Actually, you have everything to gain. It’s your choice.

If you take my challenge give yourself time to do a thorough investigation; say till the end of 2017. I would love to hear your conclusions as you investigate the claims of the Bible and this man called Jesus.

Until next time,

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” John 3: 16

Note:  I was unable to locate the photographer of the giraffe. If you know the photographer please let me know so I may give him or her proper credit.

There’s more to Life than Simply a Dash

Many believe, when we die, life simply ceases, we’re born and live on earth for however many years the universe deems. There’s nothing more, nothing less. If we’re born to live life, as we know it, only to waste away in the dirt when life is through, for what purpose do we exist? When I look at the universe around me, virtually everything has purpose and works in sync, magnificently together.

Take the sun for instance.  Our sun is just the right distance away. Not to close that we burn up nor to far that life cannot exist. Like Baby Bear’s chair; it just right.  The sun provides energy; and keeps us warm. The Sun’s responsible for photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is the driving force which allows plants to recycle carbon dioxide, our exhaled breath, into life giving oxygen.  Without the sun we not only would freeze, we wouldn’t breathe to well either.

imageWhat about the Moon? Without the moon, a day on earth would only last six to twelve hours. There could be more than a thousand days in one year! The Earth’s rotation is slowed down by the gravitational pull of the moon. Without it, days would go by in a blink. Our moon keeps the ocean tides rising and lowering in systematic order maintaining  marine life.  The moon gives way to love and romance as it lights the night sky. Currently, thanks to our moon, the earth’s axis stays tilted 23.5 degrees. Without the moon the earth might tilt too far over or hardly tilt at all leading to…  I shudder to think. Nothing my friends is here by accident; nothing.

Why were we created? Not too long ago I would have said we were created for a relationship with God.  That’s a bonus for us indeed, but I’m discovering that’s not the complete picture.  God didn’t create us out of loneliness.  Before we existed God had his Son and the Holy Spirit for company (Genesis 1; Colossians 1:16) and a host of angels (Job 38:4, 7).  God didn’t create us because he needed us either. He has all he needs at his fingertips; so to speak (Acts 17:24-25). After all he spoke the world into existence, why would he need us? We were created because it brought him pleasure to do so (Revelation 4:11). We were created to enjoy the fruits of God’s labor; to enjoy God in his fullness and all that he’s done (John 10:10). We were created in his image.  Think about that for a moment… in his image…. what deep abiding love is bestowed upon us; to be created in the creator’s image. God’s love is everlasting; from the beginning of time through eternity (Jeremiah 31:3). We were created not just for this present life but on into forever; eternity.

There is more to the dash (the date between birth and death) than simply going through the motions of life.  We have a purpose and it’s found in God’s eternal plan. He’s allowed us to be partner’s. Partner’s through prayer as we seek, ask and knock at Heaven’s door; interceding for others.  We are partners as we share in his love by loving him in return. And, as we reach out and share the love of Christ in our day-to-day interactions with others. We are Christ’s ambassadors to the world (Luke 10:27; 2 Corinthians 5:20). I ‘m learning we’re a part of the war between God and Satan.  We do our part as we, in faith, place our trust in Jesus and his truth over Satan’s lies; as we daily, put on the armor of God, the spiritual weapons of warfare (Ephesians 6:10-18).

imageLive your life (your dash) as God intended, knowing you were created out of love and with purpose.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention we have a choice. We are not pawns in a game of chess nor are we cyberspace soldiers playing in a game of war. We are humankind created out of, and in love. Not just for the years defined in our dash but on into a life not yet seen. A life which begins when our dash ends. We get to choose if we accept his kindness, his love or not.  God faithful to his Word, never forces anyone to accept him or his son Jesus. God has given us the freedom to choose his offering of friendship purely because he loves us.

Until next time,

“The LORD appeared to him from afar, saying,
“I have loved you with an everlasting love;
Therefore I have drawn you with lovingkindness.” Jeremiah 31:3

He Prowls Like a Roaring Lion

Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.” 1 Peter 5:8 NLT

“George Schaller, a researcher of lions in the Serengeti and surrounding areas recounts watching a group of Thomson’s gazelles crossing a patch of thick bush in order to drink. When they entered the thick bush, it was bristling with lions that instantly grabbed and ate one of the gazelles. Over the next two hours the same group of gazelles, having apparently forgotten the recent murder of one of their companions, tried not once but twice more to get to the water using the same route…with predictable results.”*

I’ve no desire to be like the gazelles when it comes to avoiding the devil and his schemes. Therefore it behooves me to know more about a lion’s hunting habits. Lions do most of their hunting at twilight or in the night. As the lion is said to be the “King of the jungle” Satan is said to be a ruler of darkness” (Ephesians 6:12). Lions are not very fast, yet, they hunt some of the fastest animals on the planet. Consequently a lion has 2 hunting styles. 1st is stalking his prey from cover to cover and then with a final burst comes out lion-grass-01from hiding and captures his prey. If the lion should get spotted while stalking his prey, he will sit up and stare nonchalantly into the distance. As if to say, just minding my own business, you don’t need to worry about little old me; never losing sight of his intended victim.  The 2nd style is to find a bush close to something his prey needs, usually water – climb in and wait. The lion is incredibly good at hiding and extremely patient.  Prey animals are most afraid of a lion when they can’t be seen. When a lion does appear many prey animals simply stare at the lion. “If I see and am aware of you, then I’m safe” attitude.  By the time they realize they are in danger it’s often too late to react and avoid harm.

We are Satan’s prey and we should be very aware of his tactics. Here are just a few of the many ways, Satan, like the lion spotted in the grass, ready to devour, convinces his prey they have no need to worry.

  1. Convince humanity there’s no heaven or hell; when one dies one simply ceases to exist. Scripture clearly teaches otherwise. Hell is described as “eternal fire” (Matthew 25:41), “unquenchable fire” (Matthew 3:12), a place where “the fire is not quenched” (Mark 9:44-49), a place of “torment” and “fire” (Luke 16:23-24), “everlasting destruction” (2 Thessalonians 1:9), a place where “the smoke of torment rises forever and ever” (Revelation 14:10-11), and a “lake of burning sulfur” where the wicked are “tormented day and night forever and ever” (Revelation 20:10).
  2. Distort the meaning of life-after death by convincing humanity it’s not about God or Jesus, heaven or hell. Help them believe the cosmos, the universe is a well-ordered whole, and affords all mankind the opportunity to evolve again and again. (Reincarnation)
  3. Convince humanity Jesus was nothing more than a man, a prophet. A prophet spoke for God. Jesus came for much more.  Peter when asked, “Who do you say I am?”, responded, “You are the Christ” [Messiah – Savior]” Matthew 16:15-16, see also Matthew 20:28; John 10:10, 14:9, 18:36-37; 1 Timothy 1:15; 1 John 3:8)
  4. Convince humanity there are many paths to God and eternity; that Jesus is not the only way. Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6

Let me leave you with this thought. If Jesus is the Christ the actual Son of God, and if He existed since the beginning of time, and came into the world from Heaven and died and rose Satans weaponagain from the dead, then anything He ever said on any subject is worth hearing and should be investigated and considered heavily. One’s future home could depend on it. I challenge you, once again, to search out the Scriptures for yourself. Keeping in mind that if Scripture is accurate and you dismiss it as just a nice story then Satan wins and you spend a forever life with him following your last earthly breath.  If however it is nothing more than lovely fiction you have nothing to lose by searching it out except a little time. The choice is up to you.

Until next time

“I have come as a light to shine in this dark world, so that all who put their trust in me will no longer remain in the dark.” John 12:46

Previously, I shared with you Scientists belief behind the Big Bang theory. Interestingly enough, science is able to validate the theory except for one little minuscule item; said with tongue-in-cheek. The minuscule little item is the core of the Big Bang theory; singularities. Scientists seem to agree that “prior to the singularity, nothing existed, not space, time, matter, or energy-nothing. And that the singularity didn’t appear in space; rather, space began inside of the singularity.  The question still unanswered is, how or where did the first singularity originate? I can’t help but wonder will science ever say, “God is the missing link”.

Like mankind’s beginning science has yet to prove what happens after death. Many have explored and tried to solve this unknown. Harry Houdini made a promise. If it were possible he told his wife — if it could be done — he would find a way back. For several years following his death, she held a séance on October 31, the anniversary of Houdini’s death. To my knowledge Houdini has not returned. SeanceEven now séances are held around the globe in an effort to have Houdini return or speak from the other side. No one has succeeded.  Why? one wonders. Could it be that when we die, we simply die?  No more, no less? Therefore one cannot contact Houdini or anyone else; certainly a possibility.

I have a friend, who like many people, does not believe in Heaven or Hell, or any kind of life after death. He believes we’re born, we live, and we die, nothing more, nothing less. Yet this same person, following the death of a loved one, contacted and visited a Medium. During their session the Medium acted as a channel between their loved one beyond the grave and those presently living. My friend thoroughly believes the validity of the messages the Medium shared. My friend is not alone in his thinking, many believe just as he. Gotta ask, “How does that fit?”  “If you’re dead, you’re dead, right?  How can ghosts and spirits exist?”

Why would we rather believe we simply die and cease to exist, then believe the possibility of life happening beyond the grave? Are we afraid to hope and be disappointed?  Could fear be at the root? Could more than just our thoughts be at work? Could there be ____? But what?

If you believe in spirits and the ability of Mediums to contact the dead, then would you, at the very least, consider life does exist after death. If it were not so, then who or where do those spirits whom mediums reportedly talk to, come from?

Consider, for a moment, the possibility that our life does not cease with our last breath.
Perhaps, it’s truly when life begins.

Until next time,

I not giving up

There’s much talk about Heaven of late on television, in magazines and other media. Not much said about the possibilities of Hell. I’m excited to dig into a somewhat ignored subject in today’s society.

In his book, Erasing Hell, Francis Chan examines Hell from a biblical, scriptural perspective. He threw out any biases and preconceived ideas on the subject.
hell_heavenHe researched the topic as an investigator would search out truth. His book causes one to really ponder the possibilities of a life after death.

23 Minutes in Hell by Michael Wiese, is an accounting of Michael’s dream/vision where he spent 23 minutes experiencing Hell. His descriptions are frightening.  While one can’t prove the validity of his account, one cannot disprove it either.  One cannot discount one’s experience for it is their experience. A half-a-dozen other books, piled on my desk, await my perusal and will hopefully be as thrilling as these two.

Currently, I wonder if attempting to blog a series on such a subject is a healthy choice.  Why?  Every time, I mean every time, I attempt to write and share some insights I have difficulties.  Last year after starting this blog, the “Poop” hit the fan, resulting in the need to set aside my study, exploration and writing on the subject. The challenges keep coming; I’m convinced this is what the Lord would have me write. Therefore I press onward.

Despite health challenges and curve balls of life, I will succeed… “Lord willing and the creek don’t rise”; as the saying goes..

Several years ago a group of friends and I read, “One Month to Live” by Kerry and Chris shook. The premise being, “What if we only had one month to live”? I’m looking forward to rereading Kerry and Chris’s book in light of the subject on life after death.  What if I have only the next 30 days?  What if you have only the next 30 days?  Remember, we are not guaranteed the next minute let alone the next 30 days; something to chew upon while contemplating, “The possibilities of Heaven and Hell”.

researchDoes Hell exist?  Is there life after death? What about Heaven?  Do we simply cease to exist and lay forever dormant in earth until our bodies decay? Are we reincarnated as some believe? Or is resurrection a.k.a Heaven or Hell the final outcome?  What about Hell? Why would a loving God send anyone to such a place? All topics I hope to explore further.  Like Frances Chan this gal wants to know for herself and make up her own mind.  What will I discover?  Haven’t a clue, but I look forward to sharing my journey with you.

If you are a believer, a follower of Jesus, will you join me in prayer for this writing project? Would you pray a hedge of protection around me and my family? Satan is trying hard to silence me; let’s not let him.

Until next time,

Have a question on this topic?  Feel free to email or comment below your questions.  I will be happy to research and discover if there is an answer.

Earth – God’s Blueprint

In his book “Heaven” author Randy Alcorn states, “Our destiny [as believers in Jesus Christ] is an earthly one: a new earth, an earth redeemed and transfigured.  An earth reunited with heaven, but an earth, nevertheless”. I always thought of Heaven in more ethereal terms, a place with no physical dimensions; not an earth rebuilt. Randy goes on to say, “We’re living on the remnants of a perfect world, as the remnants of a perfect humanity.”

God created an entire universe and within it he placed earth. Earth our home was created without bad stuff.  It was beautiful and complete perfection in nature. I find it difficult to imagine a world, an earth, without decay, death, sadness; an earth without evil, and without temptation.  My mind simply can’t grasp something it’s never seen or experienced.

In the early morning hours, sitting on my patio, sheltered from the world, waterfall bubbling, birds chirping, a sense of peace engulfs my spirit. I can’t help but imagine what it must have felt like for Adam and Eve. They were surrounded by nature’s perfection while chatting with God. Evening  too, for me, has its own sense of wonder.  The sunsets whisper, “Good night my love”, as God tucks His creation in for the evening.  The desert-sky provides a symphony in glorious color; a lullaby rich in color. Night comes with a vast array of twinkling lights too numerous to count. Each new dawn and each setting of the sun provides a glimpse, a small taste, a tiny tiny revealing, of the richness in beauty which awaits us in eternity.

hubble_39I’ve not always longed for Heaven.  Perhaps it’s age, but I find myself with thoughts of Heaven more frequently.  I long for a world, without evil and where sin is non-existent.  I long for a place where obedience comes easy as there’s no tempter.  A place where I hear God clearly, no longer wondering, “Is that you speaking, God?” A place where I see God –  touch and feel the scars in the hands of Jesus and say, “Thank You, Lord!” I long to see the indescribable beauty which awaits me in heaven. I long for the place where all pain, tears and sadness are wiped away. I long, no,  I crave, to hear his voice whisper, “Welcome my child.” while experiencing first hand, the hug and warm embrace of Jesus.

Author Paul Marshall writes, “This world is our home: we are made to live here. It has been devastated by sin, but God plans to put it right. Hence, we look forward with joy to newly restored bodies and to living in a newly restored heaven and earth. We can love this world because it is God’s, and it will be healed, becoming at last what God intended from the beginning.”

“Then I saw a new Heaven and a new earth, for the first Heaven  and the first earth had passed away…. I saw the Holy City the new Jerusalem coming down out of Heaven from God prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, ‘Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them…. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain…'” (Revelation  21)

Prepared for a bride….
Looking forward with joy,

Bang…. I don’t think so….

The more I delve into heaven, hell and the question, “Is there life after death, the more questions fill my mind. My computer decided to go on vacation this week, meaning… Malfunction… Quit working. Getting my blog post written and uploaded presented a challenge. But, alas, prayer and perseverance won.

Before my computer decided to be a pain in the, you know what, I explored the theory known as, Big Bang.  “According to the standard theory, our universe sprang into existence as “singularity” around 13.7 billion years ago”. What is a “singularity” and where does it come from? Singularities are zones which defy our current understanding of physics. They are thought to exist at the core of “black holes.” Black holes are areas of intense gravitational pressure. The pressure is thought to be so intense that finite matter is actually squished into infinite density (a mathematical concept which truly boggles the mind). These zones of infinite density are called “singularities.” Our universe is thought to have begun as an infinitesimally small, infinitely hot, infinitely dense, something – a singularity”. Where did it come from? Scientists don’t know. Why did it appear? Scientists don’t know. The singularity didn’t appear in space; rather, space began inside of the singularity. Prior to the singularity, nothing existed, not space, time, matter, or energy-nothing.”

Simply put, this theory supports life suddenly beginning and morphing into what we have today.  I mistakenly believed the Big Bang Theory implied some sort of cataclysmic explosion. Not so. Rather than imagining a balloon popping and releasing its contents, imagine a balloon expanding: an infinitesimally small balloon expanding to the size of our current universe. This theory believes that space didn’t exist prior to the big bang. The Big Bang theory is an effort to explain what happened at the very beginning of our universe. Discoveries in astronomy and physics have shown beyond a reasonable doubt that our universe did in fact have a beginning. Prior to that moment there was nothing; during and after that moment there was something: our universe. The big bang theory is an effort to explain what happened during and after that moment.

If you buy into The Big Bang Theory nothing existed prior to the singularity event. Space didn’t exist, time didn’t exist, matter didn’t exist, and energy didn’t exist; absolutely nothing. So where, in what, and how did this singularity appear… if not in space? They don’t know the answer; Science doesn’t know where it came from. They don’t know why it’s here or even where it is. All they know is we are inside this expansion of a bubble known as the universe, a.k.a. the balloon example above, and at one time it didn’t exist and neither did we.

Wow! I’m not sure which takes more faith. The faith to believe a singular event caused the universe to form from something, from which we know not where it came, and continues to morph-expand its existence, or, to believe the catalyst behind everything is an intelligent creator, also existing outside the natural realm.

The Whirlpool Galaxy

We could debate and discuss the Big Bang Theory, Creation by an Intelligent Being, or some other cosmic force which brought our universe and life into existence on into the next century. The bottom line is one cannot completely prove or disprove the accuracy of either belief.  Each one takes an element of faith.  Science cannot explain the who, what, where’s, why’s and how’s of life’s beginnings. Science has defined and confirmed the universe had a beginning. Here is where science and theology meet. The universe as we know did have a beginning; both sides, science and the Bible agree. The question then remains on which will you place your faith. In Science …which still cannot explain the how or from what … or, in the the living Word of God?

I believe the very thing which science cannot explain, is the very thing I believe. The singularity which cannot be defined or explained… is God.

More to come
Until next time,

” In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters” Genesis 1:1-2
